Teaching and learning

Explicit instruction

Explicit instruction is a systematic instructional approach that includes a set of delivery procedures from effective schools which have been researched. All schools in the Central Queensland region are committed to using this effective teaching pedagogy as a means for maximising student learning. All new and critical content is to be taught using the Explicit Instruction methods.

Lessons are organised and focused and begin with a warm up to allow for cueing in. This is followed by a statement about what is to be learned during the lesson and a shared understanding about why the concept they are learning is important. Teachers then use an “I do”, “We do”, “You do” as a gradual release of responsibility whereby the teacher demonstrates, then the whole class works together before finally, having independent practise.
